Integration

The policy engine is designed for integration with other web services. The typical scenario is that services offload some decisions to the policy engine, for example, authentication and rate limiting. The following illustrates a typical setup.

The normal request/response flow in this setup is:

1. Client sends a request for a resource to Service.
2. Service reads the request and relays it as a policy request to policy engine.
3. Policy engine processes the policy request, and responds with a policy response to Service.
4. The policy response tells Service how the request from Client should be handled.
5. Service sends the response to Client according to the policy.
